- The content of the "AniMotionPD" drawer of which this file is part is
- Copyrighted Freeware and its distribution is encouraged.
- The mannequin scene however (Mnqn2.3.3) is released as Shareware and a
- contribution of $ 5.00 will be appreciated if you wish to use it. If on
- the other hand you decide to purchase the software of which this is a demo
- you will find that mannequin and others, enclosed in it.

- The scene and script contained in this drawer are accessible by means of
- Sculpt Animate 4D (TM Byte by Byte).
-
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------
- A QUICK RUN
- If you have SA4D installed in a hard disk copy or drag Mnqn2.3.3 file
- together with Run.script into the same drawer in which you keep SA4D.
- If you do not have a hard disk, use your RAM disk. Copy the two files as
- well a SA4D into RAM by dragging the respective icons or by CLI. Run SA4D
- and load "Run.script" from the PROJECT LOAD SCRIPT menu.
- At the end of the process the last scene from the take that the script
- created will appear on the tri-view.
-
- Preview.
-
- Note that if you accelerate or decelerate the speed of the motion by means
- of the number keys, the movement will loose its smoothness. This has to do
- with necessary changes in frame duration in order to generate a loop
- animation. The take can of course be modified in any other manner you wish
- and rendered in your favorite mode. It can also be added to any
- environment you might already have prepared. A ground could be added and
- the position of the mannequin relative to the ground adjusted as indicated
- in the Run.description resulting in a more natural bouncing effect.
-
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- The function of AniMotions is to cause a mannequin, such as the enclosed
- one, to perform a chosen movement. The movements presently available are
- listed below.
- Besides the enclosed mannequin AniMotions will activate any human-like
- figure you might have created yourself in the SA4D format, as long as you
- use the very same hierarchy structure and either title it Mnqn2.3.3 or
- alter the scripts to reflect the name you choose. If you are not capable
- to alter the script, simply name the figure you might have created
- Mnqn2.3.3, copy the exact hierarchy onto it and make it move. Different
- movements can be joined one to the other to result in a series of actions.
-
- If you have performed the QUICK RUN above you have already become
- acquainted with AniMotion's main feature. Further below you will be given a
- quick explanation of how to manipulate the mannequin into different
- postures and how to follow the "description" to create a take manually.
- This you would have to do if you only have the Junior version of SA4D which
- does not support scripts.
-
- For obvious reasons the explanations given here are quite brief.
- AniMotions however contains an adequate manual to explain how to best make
- use of it.
-
-
-
-
- THE MANNEQUIN
- Load Mnqn2.3.3 as a scene and examine its hierarchy. Every limb
- moves by rotating in relation to the center of the joint that governs it.
- Joints are made more evident by the # symbol that precedes them. For
- example to move the right forearm you will:
-
- SELECT NAMED VERTICES #R-Elbow
- SNAP CURSOR TO CENTER
- SELECT NAMED VERTICES R-Forearm
- Rotate by means of the rotating gadget.
-
- A positioned mannequin can of course be transferred as an image to a paint
- program and painted over.
- THE DESCRIPTION
- As stated, a description is a guide to manually positioning the mannequin
- as opposed to running a script in order to produce a series of scenes that
- will result in a movement. In the descriptions a statement such as "Arm 4
- fwd", means that the arm should be made rotate forward by a measure of 4
- clicks on the rotating gadget that will cause a forward movement. If you
- were to manually reconstruct the movement starting from the mannequin as
- loaded you would find, that frames 1 and 7, for example, are listed
- together. That is to say that if in frame 1 you assign all the rotations
- in the left column to the left limbs and the ones in the right column to
- the right limbs, in frame one you will do the reverse. In this manner you
- will obtain a perfectly symmetrical motion. If you wish to manipulate the
- mannequin by means of the enclosed description, you can make a print of it.
-
- Manual's FOREWORD (excerpt from Manual)
-
- AniMotions is both an expanding and expandable library of human and
- animal movements. It is expanding insofar as disks containing new
- movements are planned for periodic release, and expandable in the sense
- that the user is able to alter the existing movements and save the results
- into his or her own library.
-
- The motions are offered in the form of SCRIPTS, DESCRIPTIONS and TAKES.
- The SCRIPTS will automatically apply the motions to any of the included
- mannequins or to one you have yourself created. The DESCRIPTIONS besides
- providing a manual method of animation allow the fine-tuning of the results
- of a SCRIPT. Also they offer a commonsense explanation of what the SCRIPTS
- portray. Finally the TAKES afford a quick rendering illustration of
- movements and allow almost instant viewing of a motion or a sequence of
- motions that you might have put together.
-
- The level at which you will tap the resources AniMotions offers is
- relative to the power of the system you are using to run it. Generally a
- one megabyte system will be adequate. On the other hand AniMotions was
- elaborated on a 3 megabyte machine. If you want to have two or three of
- the more complex mannequins interacting in a full rendered ray-traced
- format you had better have more memory in your system. At the other hand
- of the scale you will find that you don't even really need Sculpt Animate
- 4D to obtain a movement since, by following the descriptions, you can
- manipulate any mannequin within any 3D animation program. The ease with
- which this can be achieved is relative to the program you are using. If for
- example you only have SA4D junior you will not be able to load scripts
- through your program, but every other aspect of AniMotions will be fully
- available to you.
-
- The scenes created with the aid of AniMotions can be rendered within
- the context of Sculpt-Animate 4D or "translated" by means of the program
- Syndesis into Videoscape, Turbo Silver or Forms in Flight. IFF images
- pertaining to the movements can also be transposed to a paint program and
- traced over to produce stills or animations in two dimensions.
-
- AniMotions does not expect to substitute itself to the artist, rather
- the user is encouraged to treat it as a guide and alter the existing
- movements in the manner that best suits his or her needs. Some of the
- movements as expressed in AniMotions are, in fact, excessively symmetrical.
- Though they appear quite natural, they can be made more so by means of
- small modifications. The user will also have a creative task in chaining
- the movements - perhaps producing transitions - and generally adapting them
- to specific situations.
- The manual assumes that you are familiar with the program Sculpt
- Animate 4D and specifically with the chapters 9 and 11 (Hierarchies and Key
- frame mode Takes).
-
